The Trail Academy is aimed at those interested in helping maintain, construct and monitor trails in and around Flagstaff. Participants in the Trail Academy will get their hands dirty with onsite training of skills needed to be a leading trail volunteer in our community.
This Spring, FTI is excited to launch the program with two pilot events!
At these initial trainings, attendees will learn how to assess trail maintenance issues in a fun, interactive setting. Through an outdoor classroom session and on-the-trail practice, participants will gain practical knowledge of:
- Leave No Trace ethics
- Trail ettiquete
- Sustainable trail design
- Trail features and structures
- Landscape hydrology
- Trail maintenance issues and solutions
- Public lands volunteerism
Trail Academy participants will develop skills and knowledge useful for getting involved in trail stewardship initiatives, launching trail-related jobs or volunteer roles, and promoting mindful trail use. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity!
